OUTSIDE THE CELL
Closing off the cells of the Baumettes prison, the doors that now serve as the support for our exhibition were once boundaries. They separated, contained, confined.
They also gathered words, traces, drawings, thoughts… fragments of life left on the metal, like pages from an intimate diary.
Acquired by the Galerie Alexis Pentcheff during the demolition of the historic prison buildings in 2021, these doors — remnants of a shared memory among the people of Marseille — have been entrusted to artists so that they may carry a new narrative.
Exhibited from May 22 to 30 at Les Docks Village, these painted, engraved, inscribed doors will be offered for sale. A portion of the proceeds — one third of the sale price — will be donated to the Les Beaux Mets project, an innovative prison-based restaurant promoting reintegration, led by the association Festin.
